A tiny infectious agent that can only reproduce by infecting a living cell. It is not considered a living organism because it cannot carry out life processes (like metabolism or reproduction) on its own is called virus . virus is different from bacteria by the following step:

  • Viruses are microscopic infectious agents that cannot live or reproduce on their own.
  • They need a host cell (like a human, animal, or plant cell) to replicate.
  • A virus is typically made up of: Genetic material (DNA or RNA) A protein coat (called a capsid) Sometimes a lipid envelope (in some viruses)

where as bacteria have same properties :

  • Bacteria are living single-celled organisms.
  • They can live independently, in soil, water, or inside living organisms.
  • They have a cell wall, cell membrane, and all the basic machinery for life (like DNA, ribosomes, etc.).
  • Most bacteria are harmless or even beneficial (e.g., gut bacteria), but some cause diseases.
