Why Japanese attack Pearl Harbor?

In order to stop the US Pacific Fleet from obstructing Japan's ambitions to grow its empire in Southeast Asia, Japan launched an attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941. In particular, Japan saw the US naval presence at Pearl Harbor as a significant barrier to its goal of controlling resources like tin, rubber, and oil.
